Martin L. Hall
October 26, 1928 - April 26, 2018
Mansfield, Ohio
A great sense of humor was an escape valve of the pressures of life and a tremendous asset as an insurance salesman for Martin Hall. It served him well in so many situations through life – forging friendships with generations of clients.

Martin L. Hall peacefully passed away on his half-birthday Thursday, April 26, 2018 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was 89.

Born October 26, 1928 in Mansfield to parents Harry L. & Nellie R. Ciphers (aka Cyphers) Hall. After graduating high school, he proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Army.

He returned from the military to put his fingerprint on the city as a general contractor, building homes on North Illinois Avenue, and later joined his father’s insurance agency: Harry L. Hall Agency, Inc., continuous service since 1869. Martin was proud to be part of the family business and a valued member of the Mansfield and Galion communities.

He was a member of the Mansfield Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite.

Martin was an avid world traveler, favoring destinations in Hawaii, Europe and the Caribbean. An avid reader of Barron’s, in his younger years Martin enjoyed hunting.

He loved living on the family farm and as the owner of Spring Lake Stables, he had great fun attending horse shows. An animal lover of all kinds, he especially loved his horses and dogs and enjoyed driving his tractor.

He is survived by his longtime friend of 19 years Sharon Cassel of Mansfield; nieces BetteRae Hunt, and Stephanie Wilbanks; and numerous great nieces and great nephews and their families.

In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by his wife Opal L. (Hutsell) Hall in 1998; a sister Martha I. (Hall) Peterson; a nephew Steve A. Chitwood; and an infant brother.

His family will receive friends Tuesday May 1, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Martin’s life will be held Wednesday May 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Celebrant Dave Roberts will speak and burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

Contributions in his memory to American Saddlebred Pleasure Horse Association of Ohio may be made at the funeral home.

Our deepest sympathy to Malcolm and June Cole on the loss of their son, Jeff, in South Carolina.  Jeffrey I. Cole was just getting ready to retire and died suddenly of influenza. June, his mother, feels it was likely a combination of diabetes and the flu.

In lieu of a funeral, a celebration of life will take place in Cleveland, OH and Houston, TX at future dates. For those wishing to honor Jeff, donations in his name can be made to the Cleveland MetroParks Legacy Fund at https://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/parks/get-involved/donate/donate-conservation/legacy-fund. Notification of your gift will be sent to: Melissa Cole c/o Harbrecht 150 Liberty Hwy Liberty, SC 29657
